Got the time?

David Cameron suggests the UK may need to adopt a permanent fixed time format, moving away from the GMT to BST swop each year (The Telegraph).

Repeated attempts have been made by Members of Parliament to change the current system to one known as ‘double British summer time’, in which the time would be set at one hour ahead of GMT (the current BST) during the winter months and two hours ahead during the summer months. Without the support of the incumbent government, however, such attempts have previously failed. (Suite101*)

Any change to the system has always generated vociferous comment on both sides of the argument. Whatever the pros & cons or political will, elements within the Muslim world believe it is wrong for GMT to be used as a world timeline. Apparently some of our Islamic cousins are suggest we infidels should adopt MIT or Mecca International Time?

…the supremacy of Greenwich Mean Time is being challenged by a gargantuan new clock being built in Mecca, by which the world’s 1.5 billion Muslims could soon be setting their watches. (The Telegraph)

I have to wonder; is this just another way of embracing diversity in our world or, another element of covert action towards Islamic Supremacy in the world, as some would have us believe (see below)?

It is the biggest shame of humanity that so many of us have died over the century’s in the name of religion. As ever, you should form your own informed opinions about the rights & wrongs in the world. Debate and freedom of speech drives the development of social standards acceptable to us ALL.
