I’m not the only one who’s eyes are rolling!

Following on from my recent previous post about Police Reform proposals, the post below digs deeper into one of those already well-known – often misunderstood / missinterpreted – problematic issues impacting upon policing in England and Wales, and I suspect probably elsewhere… Mental Health.

Michael Brown, who is a retired police officer and subsequent University Lecturer, is a well versed and commended ‘expert’ in this particular area. But, like me and others, he can already see some inormous flaws within the government’s strategy document.

Michael, again like so many others, struggled to understand why a strategy document can’t even offer definitions before solutions. I.E ‘policing purpose’ and ‘core functions’ to name but two. He finished his exasperated critique with the following quote: “Policing is what happens when something’s happening which ought not to be happening about which somebody ought to do something now.” And I fully agree. Policing is about so much more than criime alone… Save me some of that coffee!
