Some time ago now I wrote about my nostalgic memories of angling, both as a child and more recently, in a post entitled Mr Crabtree goes fishing – again! I have to admit the title of my post was inspired, at the time of publication, by John Bailey.
John, known to many in the world of angling, is an author and international fishing guide, as well as being a fine TV presenter. He is currently working on a project (see here) that will concentrate on all of the best elements and memories of the Crabtree legacy.
The magic of fishing, the misty dawns, glorious sunsets, swirling fish, bending rods and a collective joy of catching your target fish will all be featured. The aim of this TV series is to highlight how much enjoyment can be experienced from being outdoors. It is also about teaching young anglers to fish whilst understanding and valuing our environment.
There is also going to be a ‘contemporary homage’ in book form to the original Mr. Crabtree Goes Fishing which is due for publication shortly. The book will apparently be packed full of useful tips for the modern angler as well as it containing many ‘reverential nods’ to the original classic.
Containing previously unpublished photographs from Bernard Venables’ private collection and contributions from some of our angling royalty, this is a must for every Crabtree kid of the past and the future…
Fishing in the Footsteps of Mr. Crabtree promises to be an informative read for everyone from the complete novice to The Compleat Angler
. Who knows, it may even enter the annals of timeless angling classics just like it’s predecessor? The book is now available to pre-order from the Crabtree Emporium and you can also download an advertising flyer – Fishing in the Footsteps of Mr. Crabtree – pdf document.
I’m looking forward to it, if only for the memories.
