Blame ET (update)… Reading the local paper today (Snow Joke -Letters- D&S Times 5Feb10) I note similar concerns to my own about how our local authorities have managed the winter weather.
Just as we are forecast to have another fall of snow, some wag at North Yorkshire County Council is advocating a “winter levy” on next year’s council tax to fund all the grit that has been spread on the county’s roads so far this winter – A E REID
Apparently, the weekend before Christmas, over 80 local people were treated at our town hospital for injuries caused by falls on untreated frozen pavements. The correspondent also offers evidence to suggest; other local authorities appear to manage (without charging extra money) and, provide a better service!
Dangerous pavements are obviously not a priority for the local authorities, unlike in-house newspapers!
